Not every
Christian observes Lent, but most have an opinion about it.
When I was younger I saw Lent as a dreary season to give something up for God.
But now I understand Lent differently.
I see it more as an intentional season to reflect, repent and redirect my focus on Christ and my place in His kingdom.
This
naturally involves giving something up or changing habits.
Yet this isn't for the sake of killing joy...
But that we might kill sin... to more fully enter into the life the Lord has for us.
And this is certainly in keeping with God's call to rule and cultivate our world for Him.
Because the biggest obstacle
to fulfilling the Lord's design for any of us is our own flesh.
We are our own worst enemy.
So whether you formally observe Lent or not, I encourage you...
Take these 40 days between now and Easter to take stock and clean house.
Is there something you need to confess or change?
Do it--while drawing near to Christ.
And enjoy the renewal He is bringing to your life...
... to make you more fit
for carrying out the purpose He has for you in today's world.
