Practically
everyone around you is coping with shame.
Every day.
Either because of things they've done or things done to them.
Shame makes all who suffer from it see themselves as defective.
So they hide who they really are.
And bury their gifts.
We all lose when those we interact with are stuck in their shame.
So one of the most significant things you can do is help others come out from under it.
How do you do this?
1) Love them.
You must start here... it's the only way people will take down their protective
walls (1 Cor.13:4-7).
2) Point them to the grace of God.
It's only by receiving God's grace through faith that any of us can live free of condemnation (Rom.8:1).
3) Encourage the use of their gifts.
The ultimate purpose of God's grace is to restore us so we can use everything He made us to be for
His kingdom (Eph.2:10).
Since we are all sons and daughters of Adam... living in a fallen world... shame is a universal affliction.
So we all need to come to terms with it.
If we don't, we'll never become who God made us to be in the world.
And this is why we all need to do life in community with
others who...
... know how to care for one another.
... live in the grace and knowledge of God.
... and spur one another on to love and good deeds.
If you don't have such a community, seek and pray you would find one.
Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame (Rom. 10:11).
