Here's something
to remember...
Every activity under the sun falls under the Dominion Mandate...
And it has a part in God's call to develop the world for Him.
Take music...
In order to play a musical instrument...
You must get dominion over strings or breath or keys and rhythm.
The first person recorded in the Bible to accomplish this was Jubal...
Who was the father of all who play the lyre and pipe
(Gen.4:21).
But music's place as a dominion activity goes beyond the skill of being able to play an instrument or sing.
This is because music can have a powerful effect in so many situations...
To soothe a trouble soul (1 Sam.16:14ff).
Rally the troops for battle (Josh.6:20).
And, of course, worship God (Ps.150; col.3:16).
For a few centuries in Scotland, the bagpipes had such a powerful effect they were even classified as instruments of war.
Understanding the part music has in God's world can positively shape your perspective on it.
If you play an instrument, it's worth thinking about the
different ways you can do so for good.
And if your musical ability is limited to choosing a playlist on Spotify...
Even there it's worth considering the purpose and outcome of what you might listen to.
Music is a potent gift of God most people enjoy.
But it's more than that...
Music is also a significant way to glorify Him and accomplish His purpose in the world.
Get Dominion,
