Part of the good
news Jesus preached is:
The meek will inherit the earth (Matt. 5:5).
This promise tells us there's a future for humanity on earth.
And that future belongs to the meek.
This is an encouraging word...
... for all who fear that those seeking worldly power will have the last word and win the day.
They won't.
It's the meek who will ultimately possess and rule the earth.
But what is it to be meek?
The immediate thought is: to be meek is to be gentle and humble.
Good, desirable qualities for sure...
But this should not be taken as being weak or timid.
Because to be meek certainly doesn't mean being cowardly or effeminate.
Rather, meekness has more to do with strength under control...
And possessing a willingness to submit...
Particularly to God.
Moses was considered the meekest man who ever lived (Num. 12:3)...
Yet he was mighty in words and deeds (Acts 7:22).
This is pertinent to all who walk with God today.
Because it means...
Since God has given us a spirit of power, love and self-control (2
Tim. 1:7)...
We too can carry out mighty deeds in the places God has assigned to us...
As those tamed by the Lord...
And as heirs of the earth.
