I've been hearing
more lately about the phenomenon known as "deaths of despair."
The expression refers to the growing number of middle-aged adults who are dying from alcohol abuse, drug overdoses, and suicide.
Deaths of despair have become a tragic problem.
A number of factors are contributing to this trend...
Including
shifting cultural values and economic conditions.
But at the heart of the issue is a loss of hope, identity and purpose.
Which means this is fundamentally a spiritual problem, requiring a spiritual solution.
One study has--unsurprisingly--shown a direct link between the current decline in religious commitment and the increase in deaths of despair.
This situation gives churches... and ministries like Made for Dominion... constant opportunities to provide life-giving help to those who are losing heart.
God's Word plainly reveals that the hope, identity and purpose humanity needs and craves is found in Him.
And it's only in returning to Him that the sad trend of deaths of despair will be
reversed.
Let us pray God's Spirit would do a great work...
To turn those who are dying inside back to Him.
And let us hold fast to the promise of Jesus who said...
"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (Jn. 10:10).
