How did you react
the last time someone criticized you? Or gave you 'constructive feedback'?
Did it make anxious, defensive or even angry?
Any of these are natural reactions.
But wisdom belongs to those who can receive criticism, take it to the Lord, and let Him reveal something constructive from the uninvited appraisals of others.
In the Old Testament there's a story about a character named Shimei who cursed David and threw stones at him (2 Sam. 16:5ff.).
David's men wanted to take the guy's head off, but he forbid
them.
He believed the Lord could have His hand in the situation and might return good to him through it.
David's response illustrates an important principle:
When criticized, don't be quick to react but see what you can learn.
The book of Proverbs reinforces this principle when it says...
"The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise" (Pr. 15:31).
And...
"Whoever heeds
correction gains understanding" (Pr. 15:32).
So the next time your wife, child, boss, client, neighbor... or even an enemy... gives you an unsolicited critique, don't bristle.
There may be a point to it.
You may be on the verge of some important discovery.
And the Lord may want to use it for good.
