I learned
recently that the famous former prime minister of the Netherlands, Abraham Kuyper, wrote a devotional book.
It's called To Be Near Unto God and it's based on one verse...
"But as for me, it is good to draw near to God" (Ps.73:28).
I was surprised Kuyper wrote a devotional book when I first heard of it... because he's known to have been such an incredibly busy and productive man.
Not only was he the prime minister of a country, but he also was a professor who started a university and a journalist who founded a newspaper,
With all his duties, it's hard to imagine he had time for much of a devotional life.
Yet when you read Kuyper's book, you discover his commitment to
staying near to God was the secret to his fruitful life.
Jesus once said, "Apart from me you can do nothing" (Jn.15:5); Kuyper seemed to have figured out that attached to Him you can do a lot.
And that's something worth any of us figuring out...
No matter who you are and what you do...
Staying near to God is the only way to live fruitfully with the time and gifts He gives you.
