Most of us are
short-term thinkers.
We consider... "What's for dinner?" or "What should we do this weekend?"
But deep thinking about the future does not tend to be a strength of ours.
Yet when we read the Bible we see it has a long-term perspective.
It looks at life... generationally.
For example:
One generation shall commend your works to another (Ps.145:4).
Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so
that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord (Ps.102:18).
And we can't miss this one:
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation (Dan.4:3).
Now in light of the fact that God thinks and acts in terms of generations... it's obvious we should too.
And it forces us to ask...
What is the best use of my time, talents and treasure to influence the generations to come after I am gone?
I believe this is one of the most important questions anyone can consider.
It's a question you must ask -- and answer -- to extend your influence for good.
The question may stump you.
It may challenge you.
But however it hits you... just start with a commitment you're going to obey God with your life.
Because you never know how your obedience to Him today will impact those in your lineage or circle of influence for millennia to come...
For God promises to show favor to a thousand generations -- yes, a thousand generations -- of those who love Him and keep His commandments (Ex.20:6).
God, help us to think... decide... and
invest today for the good of those who will follow us.
