The gospel
restores believers in three ways...
1) It restores us legally before God.
So you are no longer reckoned guilty. You are forgiven, covered by the righteousness of Christ.
2) It restores us ethically.
So you are now able to live morally as God intends because of the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
3) It restores us in our dominion calling.
So you--as an adopted child of the Father and ambassador of Christ--are in a position to advance His kingdom with your gifts.
These days...
We tend to emphasize the first point... that we are forgiven by God's grace.
We give less and less attention to the second point--the fact the gospel should transform our morals.
And we hardly think of the third point about ruling and cultivating our world, so we end up forfeiting dominion to the devil.
To really be a light to the world we need to live out all three of the ways the gospel restores us.
The gospel is about
more than forgiveness.
It's the means to a new life designed by God.
And it's the start of a new world.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matt.5:16).
