Winston Churchill
once said "Wars are not won by evacuations."
Let's keep this truth in mind as we encounter the lunacy of our own times.
Each week Western Culture seems to wage a new absurdity on humanity.
For example...
Last week the U.S. Congress passed a bill called the Respect for Marriage Act...
... which could not be more inappropriately named due to the way it disrespects the foundational institution of marriage ordained by God in the beginning.
In another example...
I see the Cambridge Dictionary--in an effort to make everyone feel good--has assumed the power to redefine the meaning of woman...
... in defiance of both
biology and God's created order.
As follies like these keep on coming, the temptation is to want to retreat...
To draw the shades, go in your room, and pull up the covers until the craziness goes away...
This seems like a reasonable way to survive.
But the love of God and neighbor does not afford us this
luxury.
And instead of this being a time to retreat, it's a time to engage.
Jesus did not tell us to withdraw until He returns.
He told us to occupy until He comes (Luke 19:13).
So though you may want to leave the clown show that has come to characterize so much of our public life, don't.
Find ways to engage.
Talk to people.
Ask questions.
Start conversations.
Engage, engage, engage.
There's a lot at stake for all of us image-bearers of God.
And we'll never see progress by evacuating.
