Everyone gets
demoralized now and then...
... from looking at circumstances in the world, or assessing your personal situation.
The question is...
What do you do when it happens and you're losing heart?
Do you:
... Give up?
... Complain?
... Turn to some vice?
This is where the Bible's 'psalms of lament' are really helpful.
They're just the place to turn when wearied by a prolonged desert experience.
These psalms stand out because of their honesty with God.
And they don't hold back in expressing disappointment with Him.
For example:
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long
will you hide your face from me?
~Psalm 13:1
These psalms are raw in their expression of feelings.
But they aren't messages of quitting or giving up hope.
They just say what needs to be said...
... while helping us hang on to God and continue to trust Him during our time in the desert.
So when you find yourself losing heart, turn to the Lord through these prayers of lament.
Some good places to start are Psalm 6, 10 and 13.
As you read them prayerfully, may your faith be built up and strengthened.
And may the Spirit remind you... the story of your life isn't over.
God is still working.
And He's using your part to accomplish His grand purpose in a way too great for us to comprehend.
I trust in your
unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
~Psalm 13:5-6
