I have mentioned
many times the Garden of Eden was just a starting point...
God's design from the beginning was for that garden to expand across the world as Adam was fruitful and multiplied.
This plan has not changed.
It's become harder to fulfill because of sin...
... but the good news of the gospel assures us this plan
will ultimately succeed through Jesus, our Redeemer and King.
Which means...
Everything God calls you to put your hand to today is a part of His glorious project to gardenize the earth.
But here is something you have to remember...
The garden you must tend to most is the one inside your own
heart...
Because what you sow here determines what you will reap (Gal. 6:7).
Jesus addressed this when he revealed the kind of muck that works itself out into life via our hearts...
"For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness..." (Mk.7:21-23).
The Apostle Paul touched on the urgency of this also when He wrote...
"We tear down arguments and every
presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
And Paul further directs us with...
"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things" (Php.
4:8).
So as you go about your business today, take care to cultivate and protect your heart...
Beware of the thoughts and ideas that are taking root there...
... Where there is lust, replace it with purity.
... Where there is anger or bitterness, water with grace and forgiveness.
... Where there is anxiety and fear, fertilize with faith.
Tending to your thought life is crucial.
The
harvest of your days depends on it.
"Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life (Pr.4:23).
