Here is a
straightforward and biblical way to decide whether or not a candidate should get your vote in an election.
Simply ask yourself:
"Will electing this person help preserve life, liberty and property?"
The words of this question may seem familiar to you...
Since they are in sync with the
inalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence.
But actually the basis for asking this question... of all who would rule over us... goes back much further than the
Declaration...
Because it has to do with God's fundamental intent for us as human beings.
The book of Genesis declares God as the 'Possessor of heaven and earth' (Gen.14:19).
This means He is sovereign over everything -- not the State.
It all belongs to Him.
Yet as the owner of all, it's been His plan from the beginning to give human beings life, liberty and property... as a stewardship to extend His kingdom.
When people are faithful in this stewardship -- as was Abraham -- His dominion advances.
But when people reject the Lord as their rightful king -- as in the days of Samuel -- tyranny, oppressive taxes and wars follow.
This is pertinent to all of us...
Because we each have an assignment to fulfill under God in our time.
One day we will give an account for how well we've used the time, talents and treasure He's given us (Lk.19:11-24).
In the meantime...
We're able to
fulfill our assignments best... when elected officials devote themselves to preserving life, liberty and property.
So it makes sense to ask of any candidate...
"Will electing this person help preserve life, liberty and property?"
