There's a fairly
new book out on Proverbs called Solomon Says.
I recommend it.
The book highlights that Proverbs was written to encourage and instruct young men (and everyone) to live as kings, not slaves.
Understanding this dispels the notion that Proverbs is just a collection of wise sayings...
And it prompts
us to think and act wisely over whatever domains God gives us to rule.
For He has given us all areas where we have the authority and responsibility to manage for Him.
And we're to handle these areas as a good king would.
Proverbs helps us with this... in its practical direction about how to start by ruling ourselves.
And of course Jesus -- who is the King of kings -- does even more to aid us in our kingly efforts...
... because He's delivered us from our slavery to sin and raised us up to reign with Him
(Eph.2:6).
