God gave the kings over His people just a few instructions.

One of these was to have a copy of His law and read it every day (Dt.17:18-20).

This was so the kings would fear the Lord and obey Him... and not have their hearts lifted up above their countrymen.

Upon hearing this we may exclaim: "If only our rulers today followed such a practice!"

And a hearty "Amen" would be in order.

Yet in these instructions... I believe... we find one of the best cases for reading the Bible daily for everybody.

You may wonder why this would be if you are not a king governing a body of people.

But...

You are a king of sorts (Rev.5:10)... called to oversee and cultivate everything God has entrusted to your care.

And, like the kings of Israel... 

We are all tempted by pride to see ourselves as special cases, who don't need to follow His instructions for living.

The practice of daily Bible reading helps keep us in the way we should go.

And by storing up His Word in our hearts we internalize His standards for a blessed life... and we receive His grace to walk in them.

Keep God's Word your constant companion as you plan and make decisions in the governing of your life.
