You may have
heard the term 'Christian Nationalism' bandied about lately.
If you heard it on mainstream media it was probably described as the latest threat to democracy, or something alarming like that.
So what are we to make of this?
Christian Nationalism is a topic far too big to handle fully in a little daily email, but here are a couple thoughts to start pondering...
1) There will always be those -- especially among the elite ruling class -- who hate any idea of a Christian nation because they see it as a threat to their narrative and desire for autonomy.
The Lord addresses this in Psalm 2 when He says:
"The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and
against His Anointed."
Interestingly, the Lord responds to earthly rulers who defy Him by -- get this -- laughing (verse 3). Yes, laughing.
The reason He laughs is because He's already installed His Son as King over all (verse 6,12), which leads to my second thought.
2) Since Jesus has all authority and has commissioned His people to disciple the nations of the earth, some form of Christian Nationalism is exactly what God has in mind (see Mt.28:18-20).
So there's no need to be afraid.
We may
discuss what a Christian nation should look like and how it should come about... but the fact that it's God's plan to have the nations of the earth become Christian is hard to escape.
And this is good
news, for as another Psalm says...
"Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him" (Ps.72:11).
Now let me leave you with one more idea...
As the Lord brings down the failing secular nation states that have seemed so invincible in our lifetime, something will need to replace them...
And working and praying for nations that explicitly serve the Lord... and receive His blessings... sounds like a good thing to me.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord"
(Ps.32:12).
