"... be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom.12:2).
I've noticed there are a lot articles, podcasts and videos being produced lately on the subject of 'rewiring the brain.'
This surely reflects an interest many of us have in escaping our own self-destructive patterns of thinking and behavior.
It also reveals there's a growing body of knowledge about how the brain works through the study of neuroscience.
As I've looked into this topic a bit I've noticed how consistent it is with biblical concepts...
The Bible tells us we are 'fearfully and wonderfully made'... which accounts for the intricate chemistry that affects the working of our brains.
Scripture also teaches us that we've all suffered from the fall... and this explains the distorted thinking and twisted decisions that afflict everyone on the planet.
And, the Bible gives us hope... that despite the damage we've suffered due to the fall... we can be renewed, right down to our very thought processes.
The consistency between the Bible and recent brain research should encourage us... because of the way it challenges the common assumption that the Bible is anti-science.
And it should also instill confidence that what the Bible teaches about the way to personal renewal still has great relevance.
Learning about how dopamine affects you may help...
... but nothing will change you like receiving the grace of God by following the directives of scripture.
So if you are seeking to get over your own destructive patterns -- which might involve an addiction, recovering from a traumatic event, or shaking an overwhelming fear -- then be sure and employ the Bible's principles for transformation.
Repent and believe... put off the old and put on the new... take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
