Do you ever carry out arguments privately in your mind with people who have opposing viewpoints?
I do. And it's typically a fruitless endeavor.
Mostly, because -- as I'm realizing -- I tend to rely more on my own reasoning than bringing every thought under Christ's dominion.
And, in our politicized age, the list of topics to argue about is endless... so coming up with winning arguments is a lot of work!
But a friend reminded me the other day of something that's helped to shift my focus...
All of creation testifies to God's existence and glory... which means no one has an excuse for not believing Him and yielding their life to Him as ruler over all.
So... I can spend my time futilely trying to form an argument to try and change someone's mind....
Or better... I can help someone embrace the truth of God the Creator... and -- in love -- help them see how they're suppressing His truth in unrighteousness.
As God has worked in my own heart, He's been showing me an important truth regarding those I want to reach...
The best defense of the faith is not my own reasoning or arguments, but to point others to God and His glory.
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse" (Rom.1:20).
Glory to God!
