I know there a
lot of good folks who have no interest in politics...
And because of the controversy and deceit that so often goes along with politics, they want nothing to do with it.
I get it -- especially with all the fraud and duplicity that clouds politics today.
Yet, despite this, everyone ought to pay attention to the political happenings of their day -- because it's a part of the mandate God has given us.
You see... politics has to do with the art and process of governing in the civil realm...
...
and governing is exactly what God has called everyone of us to be a part of when He issued the dominion mandate (Gen.1:28).
Now most of our time and attention should be applied to governing our own lives
and families well. That's where our primary responsibilities lie.
But we have an obligation as to what's taking place in the civil realm too.
Some will be called to serve directly in this area.
While the rest of us need to partake in other ways...
... which at a minimum involves making sure civil rulers are
fulfilling their duties in a limited, god-honoring way, as opposed to a way that's tyrannical and takes the place of God.
So... even though politics may turn your stomach, don't check out.
Of course, politics isn't the main thing. And I suppose there are those who are far too consumed by it.
Yet staying abreast of politics is a necessary part of cultivating and keeping the world God has entrusted to our care (Gen. 2:15).
We're all called to live under Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords. And this involves making sure our civil rulers do so as well.
