I was talking
with a friend recently about the problem of 'deconstruction.'
Put simply...
Deconstruction is a process of questioning fundamental beliefs about God, the Bible and moral values... which often leads to leaving one's faith in what was once believed unquestionable.
Deconstruction is a big topic. Too big to cover in full here.
But I'd like to point out something about it that is often overlooked.
Deconstruction is not a new thing. And it's not as sophisticated as it may seem.
Deconstruction began when Adam questioned the goodness and truthfulness of God in the Garden of Eden.
Ever since then, the human heart has always inclined toward deconstruction... because the Fall afflicted us with a desire to live independently from God.
But God, by His grace, brings about a new trajectory... whereby He moves all who believe from a path of deconstruction to reconstruction.
These two paths or trajectories are completely contrary to one another... with one leading to ruin, misery and death and the other leading to purpose, joy and life.
The good news of the gospel is that Jesus puts all who follow Him on the path of reconstruction... both personal and cultural.
So though the natural pull of the heart is toward a
breaking down of everything, God has made a way to be a part of Him making all things news.
And what unlocks this way for anyone is faith.
"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Heb.11:6).
