It's no secret
that lawlessness and crime are on the increase.
If you follow any news you see fresh -- and often sad -- examples of this every day.
One of the biggest dangers of this trend is that we'd get used to it and accept it as some kind of new normal.
We shouldn't.
God's intent for any nation is righteousness
(Pr.14:34).
And we all have a responsibility to tend and keep the little portion of the world He entrusts to our care.
So there's no place for responding to societal breakdown with a shrug and tolerating it as a sign of the times.
No, we ought to address it.
This begins by paying attention, keeping a soft
heart and thinking about what ought to be done.
It will also involve showing courage and a willingness to get involved.
But at its root, reversing our trend toward lawlessness will only happen one way...
We need to disciple nations...
And this includes the part about teaching others to obey all
Christ commands (Mt.28:20).
Seeing evil rise can make you frightened and angry.
But what if instead it moved us to get serious about discipling the world around us?
And by this I mean not just helping others come to know an abstract Jesus... but working with them to understand what it means to follow Him in every area of life in today's world.
Reversing lawlessness will not come about through a return to 1950s morality or conservative values...
For communities to remain not only livable but also
flourish it will take something more...
It will take a whole-hearted allegiance to Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
