When God created a wife for Adam she was made to be a "helper suitable for him" (Gen.2:18).

But what was she designed to help him with?

The natural answer is that she was to help him accomplish God's mandate to fill, rule and cultivate the earth (Gen.1:26-28).

Taking note of this provides some needed understanding about the relationship between husbands and wives in our own day.

God made men to have some mission in the world, as a part of the dominion mandate... and He made their wives to help them accomplish that mission.

In this way husbands and wives are not to function independently of one another... nor as adversaries... but as "dominion partners" -- with the husband oriented toward his mission and his wife oriented toward her husband.

Now I recognize in the year 2022 this perspective has gone the way of the dinosaur.

But I am just a messenger, and this remains God's method for human flourishing.

And those who follow this glorious design can be assured...

It is the best way for men and women to make their greatest contribution... and experience their greatest fulfillment... as they play their part in redeeming God's world together.
