While catching up
on the news I saw a great story...
It was about a man who stepped up to protect an elderly gentleman who was sucker punched and robbed while eating at a fast food joint...
The situation ended up well, with the perp restrained on the ground until the authorities came to take over.
It's fitting to call encounters like these "savior stories"...
... because in them some guy sees an evil or danger and then takes the risk to intervene in faith, believing he can save someone in danger.
Those with the courage to
act in such a way are, of course, following the pattern of the ultimate Savior, Jesus Christ -- who gave all to deliver souls from their bondage to sin and future of eternal death.
Whenever "little
saviors" take a stand or get involved -- for the sake of truth or righteousness or well-being of another -- they also reflect the character of those who have gone before them...
This includes men like
Abram, Nehemiah and the Apostle Paul...
... as well as the many unsung heroes who have delivered others throughout history, and even our own day.
The demand for little saviors can arise anywhere -- in a family, a neighborhood or a country.
And the need for the Spirit to awaken little saviors to take action increases in times of peril -- times like our own.
May God be stirring up hearts to fulfill this need.
"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends" (Jn.15:13).
