Increasingly, we're seeing this employed in our own day -- through the removal of monuments, revision of textbooks, censorship by media, etc.
All this puts us at risk of historical amnesia, which is dangerous...
Because if you forget your history, you forget who you are and lose your bearings...
And you're susceptible to the heavy hand of a ruling class that won't hesitate to manipulate facts and impose guilt to force its own interests upon you.
It's to escape such bondage God repeatedly warns His people to remember who they are as a people... and to remember their history.
Now you may not have much interest in history, but there are some facts from the past you must hide in your heart.
Here are the three most basic facts of them all:
1) God created all things and made mankind in His image, male and female, to fill and subdue the earth for His glory.
2) Adam -- the representative man -- rebelled against God's design, bringing death and depravity to the world.
3) Jesus -- a new Adam -- through His death and resurrection set in motion a plan to restore the created order and establish His kingdom everywhere.
Everything about the world's system would like you to forget these things.
But cling to them. Treasure them. Meditate on them,
They'll not only keep you from from living by lies; they'll establish you as a force for good.
Which matters... because you are a part of history in the making as you live faithfully in this generation.
"Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me" (Is.46:9).
