Many know the Bible refers to David as a man after God's own heart.
Yet what does this mean?
The most straightforward answer: David was committed to doing all God's will (Acts 13:22).
But more can be said.
And we get a further glimpse of David's heart in his encounter with Goliath (1 Sam.17)...
When David's brothers faced Goliath they became afraid and self-protective.
But David was stirred to righteous action... because he could not stand to see the living God and His armies taunted and dishonored.
So he had a heart to intervene, to make what was wrong right -- even while facing risk.
In our own day... when enemies of God are rising up... this is worth pondering.
It's tempting to be afraid, to hide and hope evil just goes away.
But we need those who are after God's own heart...
... who are willing to take a stand for what's right, though it may cost them.
What this requires will look differently for different people.
But what's in common are hearts that will contend for God, and His design for the world... and do so out of love.
