Ever since God told Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, mankind has chafed at boundaries.
Yet God gives us boundaries for our good!
When the Lord delivered Israel from Egypt, He gave them boundaries known as the Ten Commandments...
... not as a way of self-salvation, but as a guide for maximum freedom and blessing.
In the New Testament -- and up to our current day -- boundaries continue to have a place.
When Jesus says "Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” He attests to a boundary between light and darkness, good and evil.
And when the Apostle Paul says "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, this will he also reap," (Gal.6:7), he's urging us to take biblical boundaries seriously...
Because there really are consequences at play.
And we can see this in our own experience...
America became the most blessed nation in history largely because our forefathers respected and adhered to God's boundaries, believing it was for our good.
But the unraveling of our culture today reveals we no longer see the blessing of His boundaries, and have cast them off.
Examples abound...
... Our nation's callous attitude toward humans and our ongoing abortion holocaust disregards God's boundaries regarding life and death (sixth commandment).
... Transgenderism and the sexualizing of young children reflects a casting off of boundaries pertaining to sexuality (seventh commandment).
... The push for socialism and use of increasing inflation and taxation to manage the economy rejects God's boundaries regarding property (eighth commandment).
... The prevalence of false narratives and fake news has come about because we've rejected boundaries having to do with truthfulness (ninth commandment).
... And we can trace both wokeness and the social justice movement to a crossing of boundaries concerning coveting (tenth commandment).
In addition to these cultural examples, we face many personal areas where boundaries apply...
Every individual battle between... lust and purity, bitterness and mercy, sloth and diligence, deceit and honesty, etc... are boundary issues.
We all have a record of losses in these battles.
Yet the gospel restores us and puts us in a new place...
As this happens, the grace of God does not do away with boundaries...
... but puts us in a position to respect them and receive His blessing as they're honored.
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age (Titus 2:12,13).
