Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer (Romans 12:12).
G.K. Chesterton said "Hope is the power of being cheerful in circumstances that we know to be desperate.”
How wonderful would it be to feel and stay cheerfully hopeful in times of desperation!
Don’t we all wish for that?
If you have experienced desperate, tragic, and dark times, surely you've struggled to remain filled with hope and good cheer.
Yet -- despite difficult circumstances -- as children of God we have real reason for such hope because we know God is always present, always working, always forgiving, always merciful and always loving.
God our Father sent His Son to conquer all... and through Christ's suffering and sacrifice He became our Savior, King, brother and friend.
We are now adopted as God’s children and therefore heirs of God with Christ... "provided we suffer with Him in order that we may be glorified with Him" (Rom 8:16, 17).
Even in suffering we can have a true living hope and freedom from desperation because our suffering with Him will lead to His and our glory -- which should give us abounding cheerfulness!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope (Romans 15:13).
