I'm taking a break from writing the next couple weeks, but in my place will be sending some posts from friends in the MfD community. Today's guest post comes from Bill Lliorca. A married father of three sons, Bill is a student at Whitefield Theological Seminary and is in the early stages of planting a Reformed church in Wabash County, IN.
Planning used to overwhelm me.
I thought I had to have the perfect plan and I’d get “analysis-paralysis.”
Ever happen to you?
But slowly I came to terms with some simple truths that made me determined to get better at planning.
1) Time is a gift from God and he wants us to plan it wisely.
From Psalm 90...
Time is a gift that soon flies away, so we must optimize our days as much as we can.
By planning we number our days and present to God hearts of wisdom (Ps.90:12).
2) Planning is godly.
When we plan we become more God-like.
How so?
God plans.
Look at His creation week...
Day 1- Light from Darkness…Day 2- Waters above; waters below…Day 3- Divides Land from Seas, and so on.
God also plans redemption.
After man’s fall into sin, God didn’t redeem everything all at once but through a process.
So as we plan how we can bring good to the world, we practice godliness.
3) God redeems the time.
From God's promise to crush the head of the seed of the serpent to Christ's resurrection and victory over Satan, the whole Bible is about God redeeming the time.
And now, by engaging with God in His redemptive work, we too redeem the time.
“For we are laborers together with God…(1 Cor. 3:9)."
Does planning make you anxious? Are you unsure what to do next?
As Pastor George Grant says, “Do the next right thing.” And give thanks for that work, and ask God to help you to redeem the time (Eph.5:16).
What a glorious thing it is to be created in His image!
For the King!
