Living in a secular society makes it easy to assume that most of what we do in life is morally neutral.
But God made the world in such a way that everything has ethical significance.
The Bible shows us this moral dimension to life throughout its pages.
It shows us how everything has an ethical charge to it.
For example:
- In the beginning God told Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
- During Israel's history the nation's kings were evaluated as good and evil based on how well they followed God's Word
- The prophets constantly called people to be faithful to their covenant duties
- In the New Testament Jesus regular talks about light and darkness, or good and evil
- The Apostle Paul speaks of the great battle against spiritual forces of wickedness that we face
- And in Revelation we read of the final judgement
From this... notice how a biblical worldview brings a moral perspective to all of life.
And notice too how today we're in a heap of trouble because we don't tend to look at things through the moral lens of the Bible.
The only way to change this is for God's people to reflect on the moral meaning of everything they do, and act accordingly.
So consider the moral aspects of things like: your thought life, your conversations and your choices...
They all have moral significance.
Nothing is neutral. Even in our secular world.
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Mt.4:4).
