"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life..." (Pr.11:30).
Did you know Noah's name literally means 'rest-bringer'?
Noah's father, Lamech, gave him that name in the hope he would bring change and comfort to a world growing in corruption and violence (Gen.5:29).
Lamech's aspirations for his son were fulfilled in a big way.
Not only did Noah bring comfort and change, He became the man God used to initiate a total remaking of the world.
How is it a fallen man like Noah could be used in such a way?
He walked with God. He was a righteous man. He stayed faithful to do what God wanted him to do... even in a perverse and apathetic generation.
And in this way Noah brought the change and rest the world needed.
Now the ultimate rest-bringer is Jesus... who is creating a new heavens and a new earth.
Yet in the working out of this new creation, God still has a place for those who bring rest to their generation.
And as it was in Noah's day, so it is in the chaos of our own...
... the remaking of the world begins with those who walk with God.
