Establish my footsteps in Your word, And do not let any iniquity have dominion over me (Ps.119:133)
An overlooked effect of the pandemic is that more people are struggling with addictions as a way of coping with their anxieties.
Addictions to drugs (like fentanyl), alcohol, pornography... and even seemingly harmless activities like eating food and watching movies... have all increased over the last two years.
One way to put it is...
Addictive behaviors are getting dominion over us. And this is exactly opposite of God's design.
The Lord intends for us to partner with Him in extending His reign on the earth -- not bring ourselves under the dominion of sin.
The good news is...
Thanks to the grace of God and our union with Christ, sin's mastery over us has been broken (Rom.6:14-16)...
So we are free to live life as servants of God in the unique domains He calls.
Remember that the next time you're tempted... and follow the way of escape He is faithful to provide for you (1 Cor.10:13).
And remember too...
When it comes to the lure of addictive behaviors... God created you for so much more.
