In one of our Made for Dominion groups for men we've been talking about the biblical concept of calling.
A big part of this conversation involves the question, "How do you know what God is calling you to do?"
The response to this question goes beyond the scope of this short email, but the answer begins with this:
The starting point for knowing God's call on your life is knowing your identity in Him.
In other words... you have to know who you are before you can know what to do.
Identity comes before calling.
For believers, this means resting in the fact that in the Lord there are certain things that are true about your identity.
That is, through Him you are:
- Made in His image (Gen.1:27)
- Created to cultivate and keep some domain (Gen.2:15)
- Designed to be salt and light in the world (Mt.5:13-15)
- His child (Jn.1:12)
- Chosen to be fruitful (Jn.15:16)
- Under no condemnation (Rom.8:1)
- A new creature in Christ (2 Cor.5:17)
- An heir of His promises (Gal.3:29)
- Equipped to do good works (Eph.2:10)
- Part of a chosen people (1 Pet.2:10)
- Loved by God (1 Jn.3:1)
As you internalize these realities, you enter a position to consider what God wants you to do -- as His child and heir of His kingdom.
So if you're struggling with what God is calling you to do with your life, get secure in your identity.
Once you're experiencing the assurance of who your are in Him, you'll be able to see more clearly how He wants to use you.
