I have a friend who is a real estate appraiser.
His job is to determine the current value of property -- like land, a home or building.
My friend once told me everyone should take an appraisal course.
I laughed because I didn't see how I'd use it.
But thinking further I realized my friend had point.
The Apostle Paul tells us "he who is spiritual appraises all things" (1 Cor.2:15).
Meaning...
A follower of Christ critically evaluates whatever God brings before Him -- to determine its true value.
This can apply to a piece of property, but it also applies to so much more...
Like the:
- News you hear
- Advice you receive
- Ideas you consider
- People who influence you
- Books and other content you read
- Entertainment you imbibe
- Use of your time and money, etc.
In all these things there's some evaluating to take place... to determine what's truly of value...
And the ultimate standard for judging one thing or another is God's Word... because He tells us where true value lies.
So though you may never take an appraisal course, do remember...
Appraising everything that comes your way is part of walking with Christ and living as a citizen of His kingdom.
"Test all things; hold fast what is good" (1 Thess.5:21).
