Not all Christians observe Lent.
But I believe all ought to take time for the kind of moral self-evaluation that leads to repentance, which is at the heart of Lent.
And I think this is especially fitting in days of upheaval like our own.
In times of trouble we tend to look for scapegoats... to identify and analyze the sins of others who are bringing us pain.
But what if we used our present turmoil as a prompt to pause and make sure our own lives are in line with the Lord?
Wouldn't that be a more biblical and productive way to respond to our tumultuous times?
It sure beats brooding over our current affairs!
Asking God, "Where have I strayed... Where do I need to return to You?" is one of most fruitful things any of us can do.
And for help, here's some scripture to reflect upon and apply...
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts. And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.
Ps.139:23-24
