Just prior to starting His mission of redemption here on earth, Jesus was fiercely tempted -- in the areas of pleasure, security and pride (Mt.4).
This was Satan's attempt to thwart Jesus's saving work before it even got started.
Like Jesus, we face our own temptations involving pleasure, security and pride.
But we don't tend to see the connection between these temptations and the mission God has for us.
Yet we should.
God has some mission for you. He wants you using your gifts in some way in the context of life you find yourself today.
If you're breathing, this applies to you!
Yet the devil will do his darnedest to derail you. Your flesh and the world will seek to do the same.
Stay aware of this.
Temptations are often just diversions to keep you from doing what God Almighty has for you.
And on the other side of your temptations the Lord has something important for you to do for His kingdom.
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (Jas.4:7).
