We live in scary times.
Many of the idols we've been trusting in are falling.
And they're falling hard.
Science, technology, government, money, entertainment and sex have all been among the most significant idols of our age...
We've trusted them to provide security, meaning and happiness for us.
But just the last couple years has shown these idols are false gods, incapable of delivering on their promises. And to continue to trust them will only enslave us.
I believe this will become even more apparent in 2022.
This may create a lot of fear for those who have trusted these false gods--to any degree at all. It might even make it seem like the world is ending.
But the crashing of idols doesn't mean the world is breaking up. And it can actually be the beginning of something really good.
Because as our idols tumble, it can make those who've been hurt by them to become receptive to the only One who can bring them the healing and renewal they need.
If God chooses to show us more kindness than we deserve, the greatest story of the new year might be the number of people who come out of their idolatry to serve the true and living God.
"... keep yourselves from idols" (1 Jn.5:21).
