'Tis the season for graduation speeches.
And I'm sure somewhere again students have had to endure another recitation of the famous poem 'Invictus.'
You know...
The poem with the famous line:
"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. "
Every time I hear this it makes me
cringe.
Why?
Because it's full of pride and error.
We aren't the master of our fates.
Nor are we the masters of our souls.
... God is.
Yes... we have responsibilities
that influence the direction of our lives.
But we are simply humble mates and stewards, called to faithfully fulfill our God-given missions... as we follow Jesus as our Captain.
