When church gets quiet...

Published: Tue, 03/28/17

I’m sure you’ve noticed.

It gets really quiet in church when the pastor talks about sex.

… Even the babies seem to stop fussing!

Well, it was really quiet in our church this past Sunday because the sermon was about sex and the deadly sin of lust.

This was probably the best message I’ve ever heard on the topic… It really was good.

But I bring up the subject here because it has a bearing on God’s call to dominion on our lives.

Of course, the dominion mandate itself speaks directly about being fruitful and multiplying (Gen.1:28)… which obviously has to do with sex.

But there’s a less obvious — and necessary — point to make here… especially in our sex-saturated society.

And that’s that sexual sin — of all kinds — is something we should not allow to have dominion over us (Rom.6:14).

Otherwise we can’t rule our domains as God has planned for us.

As Paul said, we must learn how to possess ourselves in the area of sexuality (1 Thess. 4:4).

And it’s only by submitting to God’s design for sex that we can experience the kind of fruitfulness He’s designed for us as a whole.
