I've been working my way through G.K. Chesterton's classic book,
Orthodoxy.
Note: If you ever listen to the audio version of the book, be prepared to hit the pause button often. There's a lot to ponder here.
Anyway... in the book Chesterton makes the point that God designed us to be "undoubting about the truth."
And he goes on to elaborate that we get ourselves into trouble when we become more
undoubting about ourselves than the truth.
What Chesterton says, of course, applies to all truth.
But one of our big problems today is that we not only doubt the truth of the dominion mandate, we don't think of it much at all.
As a consequence...
We do not live to apply God's
Word to all of life.
Nor do we live with the expectation that God's kingdom will come and His will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
The truth of God's promise to make all things new is a truth we must -- as Chesterton would say -- be undoubting about.
And it's a truth that should inspire faithfulness every
day.
