Envy is always destructive.
It starts with thoughts of malice and rivalry.
And in its extreme can lead to theft and even murder...
... Like it did with Cain when he envied his brother, Abel.
But ordinarily... envy works its ruin more subtly...
As it distracts us... while we focus on the ways others appear to be better off than we are...
And blinds us to the ways God has blessed us to fulfill a unique mission with
our own lives.
In this way, envy ruins us not so much by a frontal attack...
But by the slow leaking of time and energy... as we consume ourselves with the faulty idea that somehow we'd be better off with the life of another.
Envy continually seeks to keep you from the good you could be doing with your life...
... And the joy and fulfillment that only comes by pursuing a life of love and faithfulness in the place God has wisely chosen for you.
Beware of
envy... and guard your heart against it.
