I love hearing from my
readers.
Recently one of my dear readers passed on the interesting fact that medieval churches had, literally, budgets for 1,000 years.
And this led him to ask...
"Why don't 'we' have 1,000-year budgets as medieveal churches did?"
Now... that's a fascinating
question.
And the answer probably has something to do with the fast pace of change today.
And our own impatience for immediate, tangible results.
But in any case, the question itself makes a great point:
We ought to be planning and budgeting much further out into the future than
we do.
God takes His time.
He builds His kingdom over the course of generations.
And the plans and choices you make today will affect the lives of your great-great-great-great grandchildren... and beyond.
Consider the Bible's promise:
"Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments" (Dt.7:9).
So, as you seek to manage all the time, talents, and treasure God has entrusted to you, be sure and think ahead.
Far ahead.... for the good of the generations
to come.
God intends to use what you choose to do now for a long long time after you are gone.
