"But aren't we supposed to stay connected to Jesus?"

Published: Thu, 02/16/17

Okay... I want to follow up on yesterday's post.

In case you missed it, I made the point that to keep your sanity in this world you need to stay connected to what I call The Big Idea.

With the Big Idea being...

God is slowly but surely bringing this very fallen world back to Himself...

... In the meantime we have to deal with a lot of ugliness. But the process of redemption marches on... and we are each called to be a part of it.

Now...

I hear someone saying:

"But aren't we supposed to stay connected to Jesus? Isn't it He that saves us?"

And to that I give a hearty "amen."

Of course.

No idea -- no matter how big it is -- will in itself save us.

It is the person of Jesus Christ who saves us, now and through all eternity.

But...

There are plenty of believers in Jesus who lose their bearings.

And they are at a loss when it comes to coping and functioning and fulfilling their purpose in the world.

So...

They easily become driven by whatever impulse or feeling they have... leading them to do some crazy -- and usually unbiblical -- things.

The point of yesterday's post, then, was simply to highlight:

To keep your wits and consistently serve the Lord through your calling in our upside down world...

You need a grid so you know how to look at things...

You need a worldview rooted in reality...

And that comes from staying connected to the Big Idea...

The idea that the world has a lot of craziness in it because it's fallen... but it's being made new as God graciously works through the faithfulness of His people.
