Why?
Why do seemingly sane people do things like:
- become completely self-absorbed?
- suddenly adopt risky, irresponsible behavior?
- up and leave a spouse after 20 or 30 or even 40 years of marriage?
- take on an 'I don't care' attitude, or check out of life?
- commit suicide?
I believe the answer is that somehow these people all have become disconnected from what I call 'The Big Idea.'
What is the The Big Idea?
It's the idea that God is slowly but surely bringing this very fallen world back to Himself...
... And that in the meantime we have to deal with a lot of ugliness... but the process of renewal goes on... and we are each called to be a part of it.
Now...
If you become disconnected from this big idea... and fixate
on the particulars of your life that aren't going well for you... you can quickly end up in a dangerous place...
A place where we become blind to the bigger reality of what God is doing... and become susceptible to plunging ourselves into some kind of foolishness.
It's a place we're all vulnerable
to.
... And a place it doesn't take long to get to either.
So...
Be careful. And be prepared.
If you
want to keep yourself from going crazy in this insane world...
AND also play a part in what God is doing to restore all that He has made...
Stay connected to The Big Idea.
Don't let go of
it.
Yes... we live in a fallen world, filled with afflictions and grief and sorrow...
But... through Christ, God IS making all things new.
And He wants to use you as His instrument... to make the things
around you better, truer, and more beautiful.
And the only way for you to do that is to keep going back to The Big Idea of God's gracious work of redemption... and remember that He is active in every situation you face.
