I'm still listening to Stephen
Pressfield’s book ‘Gates of Fire.’
It's long -- and taking me awhile -- but the great Battle of Thermopylae is finally about to begin.
Last night's chapter told how a group of Greek soldiers were discussing fear on the eve of their encounter with the Persian army.
Their objective was to analyze fear and know how to counter it so they
would show courage during the carnage about to take place.
As the men spoke, they gave a lot of insight about the human psyche... and how people deal with fear.
It was good and worth hearing...
But as I listened, I realized all their comments fell short of what the Bible prescribes as the antidote to
fear...
When it says:
"... perfect love casts out fear... " (1 Jn.4:18).
At first, love may seem an unusual remedy for fear.
But it's the purest antitoxin for any paralyzing thoughts and feelings that would keep us from doing our duty in the place God has put
us.
So... when following your calling brings you face to face with various fears...
... As following a calling always will...
Remember... it is from love that you are able to go on.
