I know, not everyone is into
sports.
But whether you follow them or not, the point is worth making:
Sports imitate life.
Take the New England Patriots come from behind Super Bowl win over the Atlanta
Falcons...
After leading the Patriots to an incredible victory, veteran MVP quarterback Tom Brady gave his younger teammates the key to bouncing back and turning things around...
He said:
"You play to
the last whistle."
Now... no matter what you think of Tom Brady, that's exactly right.
You never know what opportunities will come to make a big play and reverse the momentum.
It's true in a game like
football...
And it's true in life.
Certain events might take place that tempt you to think it's all over...
... That your days of doing anything significant are done.
But not so.
As another great sportsman once said...
"It ain't over 'til it's over."
And as long as God keeps giving you more
days, there's reason to stay faithful in all He calls you to do.
You just have to patiently stay at it.
Perhaps this is why the Apostle Paul used sports imagery like he did when he wrote:
"Do you
not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win" (1 Cor.9:24).
And why at the end of His life he said:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith" (2 Tim.4:7).
Indeed...
Sports do imitate life.
So whether you're a sports fan or not, keep running the race God has set before you.
You never know what's on the course ahead of you.
And the only way to find out is to seek His grace and keep on going.
