The Nicolaitan Temptation

Published: Thu, 12/01/16

In Revelation 2 the Bible talks about the "teaching of the Nicolaitans."

When I came across this this morning I couldn't recall what the teaching of the Nicolaitans was so I did some research.

It took a little digging, but...

To sum up... Nicolaitan leaders taught Christians how to succeed in a pagan world...

Nothing wrong with that in itself...

But... the Nicolaitan way was a way of compromise... leading them to ignore God's law and how it applied to them.

Taking this approach, the Nicolaitans maneuvered themselves above others.

Yet... because they departed from faithfulness, their success was only worldly.

And instead of conquering the world -- as it might have appeared -- they were actually conquered by it.

Those who are serious about advancing God's kingdom today need to be careful of the Nicolaitan temptation...

Engaging the world is risky...

And it's easy to take a worldly approach in whatever God has given you to do.

That doesn't mean we should avoid engaging the world... we should... and must...

We just need to remember that godly dominion only comes through faithfulness.
