Confirmation for your calling?

Published: Thu, 11/17/16

Yesterday's email...

In it I passed on an insight I hope made sense.

That insight was:

You can’t wait around for someone to validate you and give you permission to pursue your calling before getting started.

You need to take some steps forward.

... Well today I want to put another idea out there...

Which is:

As you take steps forward, you may discover you aren't really called after all.

And that normally reveals itself by a lack of confirmation.

For example...

Let's say you're feeling called to start a public speaking career... and begin talking about the idea with a few people who are close to you.

When you do...

... Your wife reminds you that whenever you get up in front of people you begin to sweat profusely... and you get big red blotches on your neck...

... Your best friend at work tells you the few presentations you've given have totally bombed...

... And... as you think about it all further, you realize your favorite part about giving a speech is when it's over!

This is what I mean by lack of confirmation.

Now I know... obstacles can be overcome... God can give gifts that He's withheld in the past... and His strength is made perfect in weakness... I get all that.

But normally... if God calls a man to do something, He gives him the means to accomplish it.

So realize... desire alone doesn't make a calling.

You should find some confirmation before going all in.

... People that care about you can be a big help in this area...

And remember too...

If you pursue something that ends up being a dead end?

Just know you've learned something valuable about yourself...

Something God will surely use as you keep seeking to serve Him with your gifts.

"Sad is the day for any man when he becomes absolutely satisfied with the life he is living, the thoughts that he is thinking and the deeds that he is doing; when there ceases to be forever beating at the doors of his soul a desire to do something larger which he seeks and knows he was meant and intended to do." ~Phillips Brooks
