I discovered a friend of mine has an unusual interest.
At least I thought it was unusual when I first learned of it.
The activity is called "knolling."
Ever hear of it?
I had to look it up to find out for sure what it was about.
When I did, I found this:
Knolling is the practice of arranging related objects in parallel or 90-degree angles as a way of organizing them.
So... if you had items on a desk or tools on a
workbench... and you made a point to make sure everything was lined up just so... that would be knolling.
It's that simple.
Now I must confess... when I first learned about this, I though it might be something for OCD types.
But then I got thinking...
God is definitely a God of order.
He made creatures after their kind (Gen.1:21).
He gave man the task of naming animals (Gen.2:20).
And He calls us to do
everything decently and in order (1 Cor.14:40).
... Now when you combine these ideas with the fact that God has made us in His image, it's no wonder knolling would have an appeal.
And... something else...
Knolling reinforces the truth that God has put us in a physical world.
... A world that we're called to put our hands on... and bring to order... and subdue for His glory.
So... after my initial impressions, I'd have to say the practice of knolling is
definitely NOT just for OCD types.
In fact...
As I take a look at my desk right now, I see some knolling could do me some good!
And as you take a look at your own life, a little knolling might help you fulfill your mission in life too.
