One Life, Many Callings

Published: Mon, 01/09/17

Does being faithful to your calling mean you must forsake everything else?

In a word, no.

Being faithful to your calling will likely require you to give up some personal ambitions and desires...

For sure.

But being true to your calling doesn't mean turning away from everything else in life.

I bring this up because every once in a while I hear about someone who walks away from his family...

Because he thinks being faithful to his calling requires him to do so.

How sad...

There's nothing faithful about walking away from a responsibility.

And... besides that...

Life brings us many callings.

When Jesus came... for example... He didn't come just to give His life as a sacrifice for us...

He came as a prophet, priest, and king...

And He continues fulfill these callings -- in perfect balance -- by teaching us, interceding for us, and ruling over our lives.

So... as God may give you a particular calling...

... an important calling, where you would be difficult to replace...

Just remember... He's probably called you to other things as well.

... especially if you're married with children...

And the art of living faithfully is keeping all these callings in balance...

... knowing when to focus on what...

As you seek to be faithful in them all.
