Why do we make New Year's resolutions?

Published: Mon, 01/02/17

It happens every year.

Millions of people make what are known as New Year's resolutions.

And they make them with the hope that lasting change will come to their lives.

But is there any reason to believe that change is possible?

Absolutely.

Because the living God is a God who brings RENEWAL...

Think about it:

Immediately after Adam's fall, God set in motion a plan to renew the world when He promised a coming seed (Gen.3:15).

And this plan is being fulfilled in Jesus Christ...

In the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son (Gal.4:4)...

... To make "all things new" (Rev.21:5).

At present, the renewal is still in process... and the whole creation growns with expectancy (Rom.8:22).

But the time will come when God's work of bringing a new heaven and a new earth will be complete (Rev.21:1)

And with the coming of a new year, God assures us His work of renewal continues.

After winter comes spring.

After darkness, light.

So... go ahead and resolve that you will form new habits and walk in new paths this year.

God has put the hope of renewal within you for a reason...

Because He who sent His Son to bring salvation to the world is able to change your life by the renewing power of His Spirit (Titus 3:5).

... And with that change He plans to use you... to bring His kingdom to the world... through the calling He has given you (Eph.2:10).
